PROPERTY OWNERS both large and small, and in particular, nonresident and institutional owners, have repeatedly voiced the need for a better method of selecting reputable and competent agents.  The Institute of Real Estate Management recognized this need and developed a plan for meeting it.  This plan is embodied in the Institute's procedure for designating as "Accredited Management Organizations®" those management agencies which meet its established standards of ability and integrity.  The Institute investigates, accredits and requires the continued adherence of its members to these standards for the benefit of the public.

The property owner can choose an Accredited Management Organization® to manage his properties and be sure that:

• The firm he has chosen is reputably engaged in the business of property management;

• That it is operated by experts experienced in property management;

• That it is required by Institute rules to be protected by adequate fidelity bonds on all management employees;

• That is is required by Institute rules to completely segregate its clients' funds in bank accounts separate from its own; and that at all times these separate accounts contain 100 percent of the funds due its clients;

• That it receives no refunds or benefits incident to the client's business without the client's knowledge; and

• That it advertises honestly.
